For years, we have pursued the same vision from different angles. The holy grail of remastering has always been efficiency: the absolute avoidance of copying the live running filesystem.
Adrian, this was your vision. You tackled this immense challenge courageously, by modifying and cleaning the real filesystem on the fly. When I started developing penguins-eggs, I took that inspiration but walked "my way". I achieved the "no-copy" goal by projecting the system through OverlayFS. For a decade, I believed my starting point, refracta-snapshot, was the origin, only to discover directly from you that mx-snapshot was the true ancestor. I was unknowingly, but gratefully, standing on your shoulders.
Franco, as someone who knows how to bend Linux to his will, you understand that sometimes you have to leave the high-level scripts behind and go down to the bare metal. That is why this engine speaks C.
Hosein, my friend. I know the dark shadow of war has forced you offline, and that you have far heavier burdens to carry right now. But this is a Manifesto, and your name belongs carved in it. Your work on Predator-OS is a fundamental part of this community's history. Your seat at this table remains reserved, waiting for the day you can return in peace.
Today, root filesystems have grown massive, and our beloved Bash scripts are hitting their architectural limits. It is time for the next evolutionary step.

The C-Native Evolution
oa is a high-performance core engine written in C, designed for GNU/Linux system remastering. It replaces fragile and slow Bash scripting with the precision and power of native Linux kernel syscalls. It takes our shared "no-copy" philosophy and pushes it to the absolute native level:
- Zero-Copy Perfected:
oaeliminates the need for physical data duplication by projecting the host hierarchy (/bin,/etc,/usr,/var...) via Read-Only mounts. It utilizes OverlayFS to provide a writable environment for remastering without touching the underlying host data. - Namespace Isolation: Critical kernel interfaces (
/dev,/proc,/sys,/run) are safely bind-mounted with private propagation (MS_PRIVATE) for a secure, zero-footprint operation. We implemented nativetmpfsmasks to prevent recursive "Inception" loops during scans. - Standalone Identity Crafting: We no longer depend on host binaries like
useraddorchroot.oaopensliveroot/etc/passwdandliveroot/etc/shadowdirectly via C file streams, writing identities and injecting groups natively. - JSON-Driven Orchestration: Every action is defined by a JSON task file, making it trivial to integrate with Node.js, Python, or C++/Qt orchestrators.

We have built the engine block, but the nuances of GNU/Linux distributions are vast and treacherous. We invite you to look at the C source, critique the architecture, and help us tackle the remaining distro-specific challenges:
- Universal Initramfs Handling: Expanding our native injection to perfectly tame
dracut(Fedora/SUSE) andmkinitcpio(Arch). - The Skeleton Bootloader: Refining the hot-extraction of host kernels and ISOLINUX/GRUB modules for flawless Hybrid BIOS/UEFI booting.
- Chroot Hooks: Implementation of Hooks for chroot customization natively before the final SquashFS compression.
